Generating Renewable Energy from Natural Resources
A natural addition to our energy saving control systems is the addition of solar & wind power to create renewable electricity and ground source and solar heating to provide hot water and home heating systems.
Ground Source Heating and Cooling
A few meters down in to the earth of the UK remains at a relatively constant 10 - 15 degrees. By installing piping in to this layer of the earth we can transfer this heat in to your home. If you imagine this system as the reverse of a refrigerator - in fact some systems can use the heat from the ground in winter or transfer the heat from your home in summer! These systems use a pump to drive water round the system but can be so efficient as to make 3KW of heat for every KW of energy used. They make a perfect partner for the wind turbines and photovoltaic's discussed below - imagine completely free heating and cooling year round! Ground source heating is best combined with under floor heating as they typically run at 36-40 degrees as opposed to 70 degrees plus for radiator heating.
Solar Heating - Hot Water from the Sun
Solar heating can make a dramatic difference to your homes energy consumption. Solar heating uses the radiation from the sun to heat water in a panel, most commonly installed on the roof. This warmed water is then typically stored in a tank to provide hot water when you need it most - at the start and end of the day. We can specify and install both types of solar heating system - flat plates and evacuated tubes depending on the project requirements. One of our solar heating systems should be able to produce between 40 and 60% of a families hot water for a year.
Wind Power from Wind Turbines
Wind power is a quickly growing sector - the UK has more usable wind power than any other European country and the wind turbine is going to become more and more common. The standard windmill type of wind turbine is ideal for home use and, installed correctly, can produce reasonable amounts of power for an average house hold. A small turbine can produce enough energy to power heat source pumps or solar heating pumps for a completely free - and carbon neutral - heating solution.
Power from the Sun - Photovoltaic's
Photovoltaic cells use the sun to create electricity and are best installed on the roof of larger properties. The size of the units vary depending on the power requirements of the home and are most efficient when combined with our control systems to reduce energy use. Lighting control systems can reduce the amount of energy used in a home by up to 60% whilst improving aesthetics in the home and making the home more user friendly to live in.
