Magico S5 Mk II hi-fi system, Dubai private estate

This dedicated two-channel hi-fi system sits within one of our most significant international projects — the huge Crestron installation across a private two-villa Dubai estate that went on to win the Crestron Integration Award for Best International Project. Where that installation’s scope runs to eight Crestron processors, 72 audio zones, 32 video zones and over 400 lighting channels across both villas and the grounds, this room represents a different kind of ambition entirely: a serious, purist two-channel system specified to reference standard, for a client who wanted one room in the estate dedicated purely to listening.

Magico S5 Mk II and Ssub M — The Foundation

The Magico S5 Mk II sits in the upper half of Magico’s S Series, bringing a significant share of M Series engineering — beryllium tweeter platform, Nano-Tec driver cone construction, sealed aluminium enclosure — into a scale that suits a dedicated listening room rather than the largest M Series floorstanders. Paired with the Magico Ssub M subwoofer, the system extends genuinely low bass without asking the S5 Mk II’s own woofers to work beyond the register they are voiced for, keeping the midrange and upper bass clean while the Ssub M handles the lowest octave with the same sealed-enclosure discipline Magico applies across its entire range.

Soulution 511 and 520 — Swiss Precision Driving the System

Soulution’s Series 5 electronics were specified for exactly the quality the Magico S5 Mk II rewards: vanishingly low distortion and an extremely wide bandwidth signal path with nothing added and nothing taken away. The Soulution 511 power amplifier is conservatively rated at 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms, but its real character shows as the load gets harder — 280W into 4 ohms, 560W into 2 ohms — meaning the Magico’s sealed-enclosure impedance swings are met with effortless current delivery rather than the amplifier running out of headroom at the moment a recording needs it most. The 511’s voltage amplification stage is linearised to an 80MHz cut-off, with current amplification handled in three stages each operating in a deliberately small, near-linear range — engineering aimed squarely at speed and accuracy rather than headline power figures.

The Soulution 520 preamplifier shares the same design philosophy: a multi-stage output stage derived from Soulution’s reference 720 preamplifier, achieving ultra-wideband amplification flat to 1MHz, with a precision metal-foil resistor volume control rather than a conventional potentiometer. A separate programmable-gain-amplifier stage handles the volume transition itself, stepping in only while the level is actually being adjusted before handing control back to the resistor array — avoiding both the audible relay clicking and the sonic compromise that a simpler volume control design would introduce. Together, the 511 and 520 are built around the same engineering principle Magico applies to its enclosures: remove every source of distortion and coloration, and let the recording speak for itself.

Lumin U1 and LAB12 Gordian — Source and Power

The Lumin U1 serves as the system’s network transport, streaming directly from the estate’s central music library rather than from any local source sitting in the room itself — a dedicated, high-performance streaming transport built specifically to deliver music data with the lowest possible jitter and noise floor ahead of D/A conversion. The LAB12 Gordian power conditioner sits at the foundation of the rack, providing adaptive EMI/RFI filtering and power factor correction across separate high- and low-current filtered outlets — the Soulution amplifier on the high-current side, the more sensitive preamplifier and streaming components on the filtered low-current side — keeping noise out of the signal path before it ever reaches the electronics above it.

Streaming from a Whole-Home Source

What distinguishes this room from a conventional high-end hi-fi installation is how it connects to the rest of the estate. The Lumin U1 draws from the same centralised music sources as the wider Crestron audio distribution system serving both villas — rather than this room holding its own isolated source library, it is simply another endpoint on the estate’s central audio infrastructure, given the dedicated two-channel electronics to do that source material full justice. A track started elsewhere on the estate’s Crestron system can be picked up in this room exactly where it left off, and the room itself is brought into the same Crestron scene control as every other space in the property — source selection and playback handled from the same touchpanel or keypad interface used throughout the villa, with the actual reproduction left entirely to the dedicated Magico and Soulution signal chain once the music reaches the room.

This is the same integration principle that runs through the whole estate: every system speaks the same Crestron language, but the engineering inside each room is specified to whatever standard that room demands. For a 400-channel lighting system, that means scale and reliability. For this room, it meant building a two-channel system with no compromise anywhere in the signal path — and then making sure it never felt isolated from the rest of the home.

Frequently Asked Questions — Magico Hi-Fi System, Dubai

What loudspeakers were used in this Dubai hi-fi installation?
The system is built around the Magico S5 Mk II floorstanding loudspeaker paired with a Magico Ssub M subwoofer for extended low-frequency extension, driven by Soulution 511 and 520 electronics.

Why was Soulution chosen to drive Magico S5 Mk II speakers?
Soulution’s Series 5 electronics share Magico’s engineering philosophy — extremely low distortion, ultra-wide bandwidth and effortless current delivery into demanding loads. The Soulution 511 amplifier’s power output rises sharply as impedance falls (150W at 8 ohms up to 560W at 2 ohms), which suits the current demands of a sealed-enclosure design like the S5 Mk II precisely.

How does this hi-fi system connect to the rest of the Dubai estate’s Crestron system?
The Lumin U1 streamer draws from the same centralised music sources as the estate’s wider Crestron audio distribution, so the room functions as a dedicated high-end endpoint on the whole-home system rather than an isolated standalone system. Source selection and playback are controlled from the same Crestron interface used throughout the property.

Is this part of the award-winning Dubai Crestron installation?
Yes. This hi-fi system is one room within the wider private Dubai estate installation that won the Crestron Integration Award for Best International Project — an installation spanning eight Crestron processors, 72 audio zones, 32 video zones and over 400 lighting channels across two villas and extensive grounds.
