Custom Controls are a luxury smart home installer and home cinema company. We design, install and support bespoke Crestron and Lutron systems for exceptional residential properties — from London townhouses and Cheshire estates to alpine chalets and Dubai villas. We have been doing this since 1998, and it is all we do.

Custom Controls hold credentials that no other installer in the Dubai market — and very few in the UK — can match.

Crestron Dealer of Distinction. Crestron’s highest dealer recognition, awarded only to companies that have won five consecutive Crestron Integration Awards. Custom Controls have won five consecutive Crestron Integration Awards — a record unique in the EMEA region. The awards are judged independently by Crestron’s own panel against entries from across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Dealer of Distinction status cannot be purchased or claimed; it is earned project by project over five consecutive years.

Five-time Crestron Integration Award winners. We have won the Crestron Integration Award five times in succession. Our most celebrated winning project — a private estate in Dubai with eight Crestron processors, 72 audio zones, 32 video zones and a private IMAX Enhanced cinema — won the award for Best International Project in EMEA. It remains one of the most comprehensively documented luxury residential Crestron installations in the world.

Certified Lutron dealer since 1998. We have been certified Lutron dealers since the year Lutron Homeworks first became available in the UK — over 25 years. We are certified for the full Lutron residential range: Homeworks QSX, RadioRA 3 and Sivoia motorised shading. Large-scale Lutron Homeworks QSX design — multi-building estate installations, pre-built racks shipped to site, integrated HVAC response, Ketra tunable white lighting — is one of our core specialisms.

RoomPerfect Certified Professionals. We are formally certified by Steinway Lyngdorf for the calibration of RoomPerfect — their proprietary room correction system. This certification involves advanced training directly from the Steinway Lyngdorf team and recognition on the official Steinway Lyngdorf dealer website. We are one of a small number of UK installers to hold this status.

What We Do

We design, install and support bespoke technology systems for luxury residential properties. Every project we deliver combines some or all of the following services — always designed as a coherent whole rather than as separate elements added one at a time.

Crestron Home Automation. The world’s most capable residential automation platform. Crestron manages every system in the property — lighting, AV, climate, security and access — from a single, bespoke interface programmed to how the household lives. We install both Crestron Home (streamlined deployment) and Crestron Custom (fully bespoke programming for the most complex projects). As Crestron Dealer of Distinction and five-time Integration Award winners, we are among the most experienced Crestron installers in the world.

Lutron Lighting Control. The world’s finest dedicated lighting control system. Lutron handles all lighting and shading — dimming every circuit with flawless precision, recalling scenes at the touch of a keypad and managing motorised blinds and curtains as part of the same interface. We are certified for Lutron Homeworks QSX and RadioRA 3 and have delivered large-scale Lutron installations continuously since 1998.

Home Cinema. Dedicated cinema rooms, living room cinema systems and large-format theatre spaces — designed from the acoustic ground up, calibrated to the room, integrated with Crestron and Lutron. From a £30,000 dedicated room to a £750,000 IMAX Enhanced screening facility. We have installed cinema rooms across London, Cheshire, Surrey, Dubai, the Alps and beyond.

Steinway Lyngdorf. We are authorised Steinway Lyngdorf dealers and RoomPerfect Certified Professionals. Steinway Lyngdorf systems — designed in partnership between Steinway and Sons and audio engineer Peter Lyngdorf — represent the reference standard for home cinema audio and music reproduction.

Enterprise WiFi and Networking. The network is the foundation of every smart home. We design and install enterprise-grade wired networks with professional access points — reliable, fast and managed centrally.

Security and Access Control. CCTV, video doorbells, alarm panels, smart locks and access control — all integrated within the Crestron system.

Dubai and International. Dubai is our most established international market. We have been active in the UAE since the early 2000s and typically run two to three Dubai projects simultaneously. We also work in Morocco, France, Spain, West Africa and across the wider Middle East. All international projects are pre-built and pre-programmed at our UK workshop before shipping.

Our History

Custom Controls was founded in 1998 — the year Lutron Homeworks first became available in the UK and the period when Crestron was establishing itself as the dominant residential automation platform in the country. We have been at the centre of the UK’s luxury smart home industry for the entirety of its development as a mature market.

In 25 years we have installed hundreds of systems — from single-room cinema installations to whole-estate automation projects spanning multiple buildings. We have worked through every generation of Crestron and Lutron hardware, migrated clients through multiple platform changes, and been involved in projects that were, at the time they were completed, among the most technically ambitious residential installations in the world.

We have not diversified into commercial installation, systems integration or IT services. Smart home and home cinema for luxury residential clients is what we do, and we have spent 25 years becoming better at it.

Our Approach

Pre-build methodology. Every Custom Controls system is fully assembled, programmed and tested at our workshop before it arrives on site. Equipment racks are wired, labelled and configured. Software is written, debugged and tested. What arrives on site is a finished system, not a collection of components. This is the single most important reason our installations consistently finish on time and to specification — and it is an approach that requires the infrastructure and experience to execute reliably.

Bespoke programming. We do not use template programmes. Every Crestron system is programmed from scratch to reflect the specific layout of the property, the specific preferences of the client and the full roster of third-party systems that need to be integrated. The programme for a six-bedroom London townhouse is different from the programme for a Cheshire estate — not just in the number of zones but in the logic, the scenes, the automations and the interface.

Long-term support. We are still maintaining systems we installed in the late 1990s. Every system we install is configured for remote monitoring from our UK operations. We are notified of faults automatically and resolve the majority remotely before the client is aware of them. We offer annual maintenance contracts for all platforms and provide software updates, reprogramming and hardware upgrades throughout the system’s life.

Manufacturer independence. We are not owned by, financially dependent on, or commercially incentivised by any manufacturer or distributor. Our recommendations are based entirely on what is right for each project. We install Crestron and Lutron because they are the best platforms for the work we do — not because of margin incentives. If a project is better served by a different platform, we say so.
