Custom Controls have been delivering high-end smart home, home cinema and lighting control installations internationally since the late 1990s. Our clients commission us for international projects for the same reason they commission us in the UK — because we design and install at a standard that very few companies, anywhere in the world, can match. We have active and completed projects across the Middle East, Europe and Africa. Dubai remains our most established international market, where we regularly run two to three simultaneous projects and have built a network of trusted local contacts spanning interior architects, main contractors and specialist trades. Beyond Dubai, we have completed projects in Morocco, France, Spain, Switzerland and the Alps, and have worked across West Africa on large-scale residential installations.
Our approach to international projects is built around a simple principle: the system should arrive on site complete, tested and ready to install — not assembled and debugged in the client’s home at international day rates. Every Custom Controls international installation is fully pre-built, programmed and tested at our UK workshop before a single flight is booked. What arrives on site is a finished system. Installation is precise, efficient and predictable.
How We Work on International Projects
International installations present challenges that domestic projects do not — logistics, time zones, local trade relationships, customs and import, climate considerations, and the practical reality that every day of engineering time spent abroad costs significantly more than the same day at home. Our methodology is designed to address all of these.
Pre-build and pre-programme. Every system — racks, processors, AV equipment, networking, automation — is fully assembled, cabled, programmed and tested at our UK workshop before shipment. When we arrive on site, we are installing a finished, tested system. We are not building it there.
Local trade relationships. In Dubai, we have established relationships with specialist trades, import agents and interior architects built over many years of active project delivery. In new markets, we work closely with the main contractor to identify and coordinate reliable local electrical and civils trades, reducing our on-site time and your cost.
Remote monitoring and support. Every Custom Controls international installation is configured for remote access and monitoring. We can diagnose, adjust and update your system from our UK offices without the need for a site visit in the vast majority of cases. For clients with properties they visit seasonally — in the Alps, in Marbella, in Dubai — this is particularly valuable.
Complete manufacturer independence. We have no commercial arrangements with any local distributor in any market we work in. Our specifications are based entirely on what is right for each project.
