Integrating Streaming Services into a Home Entertainment System
There is no doubt that the future of music streaming around the home is internet based – services such as Spotify, Pandora and Deezer provide access to huge amount of music for a minimal monthly outlay. Some systems such as Sonos integrate these services perfectly, allowing the aforementioned services, internet radio and the clients own digital music collection to be enjoyed anywhere in the home. More traditional Home Automation systems such as Control 4 and Crestron have been struggling a little to integrate such services in such an easy to use way – until now.
Our home entertainment systems build on the best elements of systems like Sonos – by centralising sources and distributing them around the home we can offer advanced functionality above and beyond the usual systems. Imagine a family of four in a large house – we would centralise a Sonos Connnect for each person and then make them available anywhere in the home. Combine this with our profile driven approach to home automation and the benefits become huge. When one of the family walk in to a room they simply tap their name on a touchpanel (or iPad) and are presented with their own favourite radio station presets and favourite playlists – we can even set the room up to reflect their listening styles – preferred bass levels etc. As each family member has their own source they can even have different accounts configured meaning adults don’t have to sort through playlists of kids music and kids get age appropriate material.
The actual interface you use to control the Sonos is very similar to the Sonos application people are used to on iPads and iPhones so is straightforward to use but is enhanced by bringing favourites out on to the home page so no need to select internet radio, favourites and then the station – just tap your name and then select a preset.
This is by far the most convenient way to enjoy streaming music around the home and is only available via a home entertainment system from Custom Controls.
