Steinway Lyngdorf Dealer & Installer

The Finest Home Cinema and Listening Room Systems in the World, Installed by Custom Controls

Steinway Lyngdorf occupies a category of its own in home audio and cinema. Born from a partnership between Steinway & Sons — makers of the world’s finest concert grand pianos since 1853 — and Peter Lyngdorf, one of the most influential figures in high-end audio engineering, Steinway Lyngdorf systems are designed and built without compromise. At Custom Controls, we are authorised Steinway Lyngdorf dealers and installers, with hands-on experience of designing and integrating these systems into private homes and dedicated cinema rooms of the very highest standard.

What Makes Steinway Lyngdorf Different?

Steinway Lyngdorf Marine Speaker

Every element of a Steinway Lyngdorf system is engineered to reproduce music and film soundtracks exactly as the artist or director intended — with no colouration, no distortion and no compromise. The company’s engineers work directly with recording studios, mixing facilities and concert halls, ensuring that what leaves the studio arrives intact in your listening room.

Three technologies define what Steinway Lyngdorf does that no other manufacturer can match.

RoomPerfect — The World’s Most Advanced Room Correction

RoomPerfect is Steinway Lyngdorf’s proprietary room correction technology, and it is unlike anything else available. Rather than measuring the room at a single point, RoomPerfect maps the acoustic behaviour of the entire room by sampling at multiple positions throughout the space. The algorithm then calculates corrections that optimise the sound throughout the listening area — not just at a single sweet spot — while preserving the natural character of the loudspeakers. The result is a system that sounds as if the room itself has been acoustically perfected. No other room correction system comes close.

Full Digital Amplification — No Signal Degradation

Steinway Lyngdorf amplifiers are fully digital from input to output. The audio signal remains in the digital domain throughout the entire signal chain — there is no digital-to-analogue conversion until the very last moment before the speaker driver moves. This eliminates an entire category of distortion that affects every conventional amplifier design. The result is amplification of extraordinary precision, with vanishingly low distortion figures that translate directly into a cleaner, more detailed, more involving sound.

Loudspeaker Design — Built Without Compromise

Steinway Lyngdorf loudspeakers are designed by the same engineering team that builds Steinway & Sons concert grand pianos — people who understand, at a profound level, what acoustic perfection sounds like. Each speaker model is voiced to work as part of a complete system, and each is available in any finish that Steinway & Sons offers on their pianos — including all wood veneers and lacquer finishes — so the system integrates seamlessly with the finest interiors.

Steinway Lyngdorf for Home Cinema

Steinway Lyngdorf systems are equally at home in a dedicated cinema room as in a two-channel music listening room. The Model P300 processor supports all current immersive audio formats — Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D — and works with the full range of Steinway Lyngdorf loudspeakers to create cinema experiences of extraordinary realism. We have designed and installed Steinway Lyngdorf cinema systems for clients in the UK and internationally. One of our most significant Steinway Lyngdorf projects was a complete home in Rome featuring ten dedicated two-channel stereo zones throughout the property, each driven by Steinway Lyngdorf electronics, alongside a dedicated cinema room with a Samsung The Wall display measuring 3 metres by 2 metres and 31 Bluesound zones for distributed audio. The integration of Steinway Lyngdorf at this scale — managed across a complete smart home platform with full Crestron control — is precisely the kind of project Custom Controls specialises in.

Why Custom Controls for Your Steinway Lyngdorf Installation?

  • Authorised dealers with real installation experience. We are authorised Steinway Lyngdorf dealers who have designed and installed complete systems in private homes. Our experience goes well beyond the showroom.
  • 25 years of high-end installation. Since 1998, Custom Controls has been installing the most demanding audio and cinema systems for private clients across the UK and internationally. That accumulated experience is what ensures a Steinway Lyngdorf system performs as it should.
  • Five consecutive Crestron Integration Awards. Every system we install — regardless of the audio components at its heart — is held to the same standard of engineering excellence.
  • RoomPerfect calibration expertise. Getting the most from RoomPerfect requires a trained engineer who understands how to interpret the measurements and refine the calibration. Our team has that expertise.
  • Seamless smart home integration. A Steinway Lyngdorf system is most powerful when it is fully integrated into a wider smart home platform. We integrate with Crestron, Lutron and other leading control systems so your entire home — audio, cinema, lighting, climate — operates as one.
  • Whole-home and multi-zone audio. From a single two-channel listening room to a complete multi-zone audio system spanning an entire property, we design and install Steinway Lyngdorf systems at any scale.
  • London, Cheshire, the French Alps and internationally. Our projects span the UK and the world. Distance is not a constraint.

A Steinway Lyngdorf Home Cinema — Built by Custom Controls

Steinway Lyngdorf Home Cinema Room

We have documented the complete design, specification and construction of one of our Steinway Lyngdorf home cinema installations — from the acoustic room construction through to RoomPerfect calibration. The room was built from first principles: stud walls lined with Acoustiblok sound insulation membrane and QuietFiber mineral wool, finished in acoustic fabric throughout. The result is a room that contains its own acoustic environment completely, with no sound transmission in either direction and no reflective surfaces to compromise the performance of the system within it.

The display is a Samsung The Wall direct-view LED in a 4 × 4 module configuration measuring 3 metres wide by 2 metres tall — a screen size that simply cannot be achieved with any conventional projector and screen combination at this quality level. Source material passes through a Lumagen Radiance Pro video processor before reaching the display, with a Kaleidescape Movie Server providing lossless 4K film content and a Bluesound Node running Roon delivering lossless music as part of the wider whole-house audio system.

The audio system is a complete Steinway Lyngdorf installation: IW-66 in-wall speakers for the front left and right channels, two IW-26H speakers in an above-and-below-screen configuration for the centre channel, four LS bw boundary woofers for bass, Model O freestanding speakers for the rear surround channels and IW-16 in-ceiling speakers for Dolby Atmos height channels. The P300 processor manages all decoding and signal routing, four A2 amplifiers drive every speaker in the room, and RoomPerfect calibration — performed by Steinway Lyngdorf’s own engineers on-site — corrects the system to the specific acoustic behaviour of the room across every seating position. Lighting and blinds are controlled by Lutron Homeworks QS as part of the whole-house system, and an RTI control system manages the entire cinema from a single interface.
