Steinway Lyngdorf Dealer & Installer
The Finest Home Cinema and Listening Room Systems in the World — RoomPerfect Certified Professionals
Steinway Lyngdorf occupies a category of its own in home audio and cinema. Born from a partnership between Steinway & Sons — makers of the world’s finest concert grand pianos since 1853 — and Peter Lyngdorf, one of the most influential figures in high-end audio engineering, Steinway Lyngdorf systems are designed and built without compromise. At Custom Controls, we are authorised Steinway Lyngdorf dealers and installers, and RoomPerfect Certified Professionals — one of a small number of UK installers to hold formal certification in Steinway Lyngdorf’s proprietary room correction technology.
What Makes Steinway Lyngdorf Different?
Every element of a Steinway Lyngdorf system is engineered to reproduce music and film soundtracks exactly as the artist or director intended — with no colouration, no distortion and no compromise. The company’s engineers work directly with recording studios, mixing facilities and concert halls, ensuring that what leaves the studio arrives intact in your listening room.
Three technologies define what Steinway Lyngdorf does that no other manufacturer can match.
RoomPerfect — The World’s Most Advanced Room Correction
RoomPerfect is Steinway Lyngdorf’s proprietary room correction technology, and it is unlike anything else available. Rather than measuring the room at a single point, RoomPerfect maps the acoustic behaviour of the entire room by sampling at multiple positions throughout the space. The algorithm then calculates corrections that optimise the sound throughout the listening area — not just at a single sweet spot — while preserving the natural character of the loudspeakers. The result is a system that sounds as if the room itself has been acoustically perfected. No other room correction system comes close.
Full Digital Amplification — No Signal Degradation
Steinway Lyngdorf amplifiers are fully digital from input to output. The audio signal remains in the digital domain throughout the entire signal chain — there is no digital-to-analogue conversion until the very last moment before the speaker driver moves. This eliminates an entire category of distortion that affects every conventional amplifier design. The result is amplification of extraordinary precision, with vanishingly low distortion figures that translate directly into a cleaner, more detailed, more involving sound.
Loudspeaker Design — Built Without Compromise
Steinway Lyngdorf loudspeakers are designed by the same engineering team that builds Steinway & Sons concert grand pianos — people who understand, at a profound level, what acoustic perfection sounds like. Each speaker model is voiced to work as part of a complete system, and each is available in any finish that Steinway & Sons offers on their pianos — including all wood veneers and lacquer finishes — so the system integrates seamlessly with the finest interiors.
Steinway Lyngdorf for Home Cinema
Steinway Lyngdorf systems are equally at home in a dedicated cinema room as in a two-channel music listening room. The Model P300 processor supports all current immersive audio formats — Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D — and works with the full range of Steinway Lyngdorf loudspeakers to create cinema experiences of extraordinary realism. We have designed and installed Steinway Lyngdorf cinema systems for clients in the UK and internationally. One of our most significant Steinway Lyngdorf projects was a complete home in Rome featuring ten dedicated two-channel stereo zones throughout the property, each driven by Steinway Lyngdorf electronics, alongside a dedicated cinema room with a Samsung The Wall display measuring 3 metres by 2 metres and 31 Bluesound zones for distributed audio.
RoomPerfect — Explained
Every Steinway Lyngdorf system ships with RoomPerfect — the room correction and calibration technology developed by Peter Lyngdorf over more than two decades of fundamental audio research. It is not an optional add-on or a software extra. It is the core of how every Steinway Lyngdorf system is designed to work, and it is one of the primary reasons a Steinway Lyngdorf installation sounds the way it does.
Custom Controls are RoomPerfect Certified Professionals — one of a small number of UK installers to have completed Steinway Lyngdorf’s in-depth RoomPerfect certification programme. The certification involves advanced training directly from the Steinway Lyngdorf team, access to RoomPerfect experts for complex installations, and recognition on the official Steinway Lyngdorf dealer website. It is a meaningful distinction: RoomPerfect is a sophisticated technology that rewards proper understanding, and a poorly executed calibration will not deliver what the system is capable of.
What RoomPerfect Does. Every room shapes the sound it contains. Walls, floors, ceilings and the objects in the room all reflect, absorb and diffuse sound energy — and those reflections arrive at the listener a fraction of a second after the direct sound, colouring and distorting it in ways that are audible even when they cannot be easily identified. RoomPerfect’s approach to this problem is distinctive. Most room correction systems take a measurement at the primary listening position and apply equalisation to flatten the frequency response at that single point. RoomPerfect takes multiple measurements from positions distributed throughout the entire room — building a comprehensive model of how the room behaves acoustically as a whole. The corrections applied are then optimised for the whole room simultaneously, producing a system that sounds right not just in one chair, but across every listening position.
The Voicing System. RoomPerfect includes a Voicing system that allows the character of the sound to be adjusted after calibration without undoing the room correction work. Voicings sit on top of the corrected baseline — a slightly warmer presentation for late-night listening, a more forward mid-range for spoken word, a flat reference mode for music. On Steinway Lyngdorf cinema processors, the Voicing system can be linked to Crestron scenes so the processor automatically selects the correct Voicing when switching between film and music.
Why Certification Matters. RoomPerfect rewards proper understanding. Getting the most from a Steinway Lyngdorf installation — placing measurements to optimise specific problem areas, understanding how the room’s modal behaviour is being addressed, knowing when the calibration is genuinely finished versus merely complete — requires a level of understanding that goes beyond following a procedure. Our RoomPerfect Certified Professional status means we have that understanding, formally recognised by Steinway Lyngdorf. For a system at this level of investment, it is the calibration standard the hardware deserves.

A Steinway Lyngdorf Home Cinema — Built by Custom Controls
We have documented the complete design, specification and construction of one of our Steinway Lyngdorf home cinema installations — from the acoustic room construction through to RoomPerfect calibration. The room was built from first principles: stud walls lined with Acoustiblok sound insulation membrane and QuietFiber mineral wool, finished in acoustic fabric throughout.
The display is a Samsung The Wall direct-view LED in a 4 × 4 module configuration measuring 3 metres wide by 2 metres tall. The audio system is a complete Steinway Lyngdorf installation: IW-66 in-wall speakers for the front left and right channels, two IW-26H speakers in an above-and-below-screen configuration for the centre channel, four LS bw boundary woofers for bass, Model O freestanding speakers for the rear surround channels and IW-16 in-ceiling speakers for Dolby Atmos height channels. The P300 processor manages all decoding and signal routing, four A2 amplifiers drive every speaker in the room, and RoomPerfect calibration corrects the system to the specific acoustic behaviour of the room across every seating position.
