This dedicated cinema room sits within the same private two-villa Dubai estate as our huge Crestron installation — eight Crestron processors, 72 audio zones, 32 video zones and over 400 lighting channels across both villas and the grounds, an installation that went on to win the Crestron Integration Award for Best International Project in EMEA. This room was its own recognised highlight within that project, winning Artcoustic’s Install of the Month. A 3.5m projector screen displays images from a SIM2 Lumis 3D projector while audio is delivered by a full Artcoustic Spitfire cinema system — seventeen channels of Anthem amplification, four subwoofers and surround speakers at every row. The room itself was designed from the ground up to deliver the best possible acoustic performance, and remains in almost daily use.

Audio and Video System

Front left, centre and front right Artcoustic Spitfire speakers are installed in the void behind the acoustically transparent screen, together with four Artcoustic Spitfire subwoofers — perfectly combining audio and picture by placing the sound source at the image plane. Each row of Cineak seats has its own pair of Artcoustic surround speakers, ensuring full immersive surround sound regardless of seating position. Seventeen channels of Anthem amplification drive the complete system. The SIM2 Lumis 3DS projector delivers 1080p at 3,000 lumens — vivid, sharp and capable of filling the 3.5m screen convincingly in all lighting conditions.

The Room Design

The room is a trapezoid — slightly wider at the rear than the screen end — which is the acoustically ideal geometry for minimising standing waves and optimising surround imaging. The false wall houses the speaker void behind the screen, integrating curtains and lighting cleanly. The star effect ceiling complements the LED step lighting and Onyx tables between the Cineak Vedette chairs, creating an atmosphere that works equally well for film evenings and concert Blu-ray viewing.

Control and Automation

As part of the estate’s full Crestron-controlled environment, a Crestron TPS-6X wireless remote controls the room entirely — lighting, air conditioning, projector and all amplifiers from a single interface. One button press switches the projector on, routes video from the Kaleidescape server through the Crestron Digital Media matrix, opens the screen curtains and sets the correct lighting scene simultaneously. Sources include a Kaleidescape movie server, satellite TV, Apple TV and rack-mounted games consoles — a Crestron wall plate also allows local source connection for cameras or new devices. The room’s Crestron system communicates with the same processors managing lighting, air conditioning and AV throughout both villas and the grounds, so this cinema is one room within a single, unified estate-wide control system rather than an isolated installation.
