Custom Controls have won five consecutive Crestron Integration Awards — a record unique in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa). This recognition cannot be purchased or claimed; it is earned project by project over five consecutive years. As of June 2026, Custom Controls remain the only UK installer to hold this status.
Five-Time Crestron Integration Award Winners — We have won the Crestron Integration Award five times in succession, judged independently by Crestron’s panel against entries from across EMEA. Our most celebrated winning project — a private estate in Dubai with eight Crestron processors, 72 audio zones, 32 video zones and a private IMAX Enhanced cinema — won Best International Project in EMEA. Crestron Home or Crestron Custom?
Crestron offers two distinct ways to deliver a residential smart home, and choosing correctly between them is one of the most important decisions in any project. Crestron Home is a curated, preconfigured platform — faster to deploy, highly capable, and the right specification for the majority of luxury residential smart home projects. Crestron Custom is fully bespoke programming, written from scratch for properties and briefs that exceed what a configurable platform can accommodate — very large estates, multiple buildings, unusual third-party integrations or an interface designed entirely around a specific workflow.
We install and support both, and we recommend based on the scale and complexity of your project rather than steering every client towards the most expensive option. If you are not sure which applies to you, the answer is usually Crestron Home — and we will tell you that clearly during a consultation.
Crestron Audio Video Systems
Crestron NVX and NAX form the most flexible AV distribution system available for residential smart home projects. NVX distributes 4K HDR video over a standard IP network — any source can feed any display, anywhere in the property, with no loss of quality and no fixed routing limitations. NAX does the same for audio, with each amplifier channel capable of playing an entirely independent source — Spotify, Apple Music or any streaming service built directly into the channel. Together they scale from a single room to a multi-building smart home estate without compromise.
Crestron Lighting & Electronic Blinds
Crestron lighting control handles any type of light fitting, programmed into scenes recalled from a keypad, touchpanel or app. Motorised blinds and curtains work alongside the lighting system — closing automatically in response to solar gain, or as part of any scene. Every lighting rack is designed and built before construction starts, arriving on site ready for electricians to connect. This is a core element of any comprehensive smart home installation.
Crestron and Lutron — Our Most Specified Combination
While Crestron offers excellent native lighting control, the majority of our high-end smart home projects pair Crestron with Lutron for lighting and shading. Lutron has been building dedicated lighting control systems since 1961 — longer than any other company — and the quality of their dimming technology, keypad design and long-term reliability reflects that singular focus. When clients want the very best lighting system inside the very best smart home automation platform, Crestron and Lutron together is the answer.
For large new builds and major renovations, we specify Lutron Homeworks QSX alongside Crestron. QSX gives us unlimited lighting zones, the full Lutron designer keypad range — Alisse, Palladiom, Avienna — and native Ketra full-spectrum lighting, all controlled from a single bespoke Crestron interface. For retrofit projects where rewiring is not possible, Lutron RadioRA 3 integrates fully with Crestron and delivers the same quality result without a cable being pulled. Motorised shading — Lutron Palladiom blinds and Sivoia QS curtains — is part of the same integrated smart home system, programmed into every scene alongside the lighting.

Crestron at Scale — A Whole-Estate Installation in Dubai
Our most celebrated Crestron case study — and the project that won us the Crestron Integration Award for Best International Project — is a complete Crestron system spanning two large villas, extensive gardens, a swimming pool, a basketball court, a lake and a stream on a private estate in Dubai. Eight Crestron processors provide integrated control throughout — distributing audio to 72 zones, video to 32 zones and managing well over 400 lighting channels across both villas and the grounds. Five surround sound zones, five Kaleidescape movie servers, four Apple TVs, 24 audio sources and a full Crestron Sonnex audio distribution system serve the family villa, the guest villa, staff areas, offices and classrooms simultaneously.
The scope of this project is perhaps best illustrated by its details: the basketball court has four cabinet speakers mounted on the floodlights with two sunken subwoofers; the garden fire pits are Crestron-controlled; the gym features Artcoustic speakers enhanced by subwoofers; and the master bedroom suite houses a bespoke Stax headphone system with a valve amplifier and DaVinci DAC for private listening. The dedicated home cinema room in the family villa seats eight in Cineak chairs with backlit Onyx tables, with a 3.5m screen and 17 channels of surround sound. It is, in every sense, one of the most comprehensive Crestron installations ever delivered in the residential market — and the case study documents it in full.
