Home Cinema Installer Alps — Cinema Rooms for Alpine Chalets
Award-winning home cinema design and installation for alpine chalets. 4K laser projection, Dolby Atmos, Kaleidescape and Crestron integration. Alps office in Montriond, Haute-Savoie.
Custom Controls have designed and installed some of the finest cinema rooms in the French and Swiss Alps — bringing the same acoustic rigour, equipment specification and calibration standard to alpine chalets that we apply to our London and Dubai cinema rooms. Our Alps portfolio spans compact ski chalet cinema rooms in Morzine and Les Gets through to large prestige cinema rooms in Megève and Courchevel. We have an Alps office in Montriond, Haute-Savoie, and have been delivering cinema installations to alpine properties since the early 2000s.
A cinema room is one of the most valuable additions to a ski chalet. The alpine day follows a natural pattern — mountain in the morning, lunch on the terrace, afternoon rest, dinner, and then the evening. A properly designed cinema room fills the evening hours in a way that no other facility in the chalet matches. For chalets managed as rental properties, a cinema room is a significant commercial differentiator — consistently cited in guest reviews as a primary reason for repeat bookings.
Alpine Chalet Cinema Rooms — The Specific Considerations

Designing a cinema room for an alpine chalet presents different challenges from a London townhouse or a Cheshire country house. Alpine chalet construction — thick stone foundations, heavy timber frame, dense concrete — actually provides inherent acoustic isolation that UK domestic construction rarely matches. Sound transmission to neighbouring chalets or upstairs bedrooms is less of a concern than in a terraced townhouse. The acoustic challenge in an alpine cinema room is typically internal — managing the room’s own reverberance given the hard reflective surfaces common in chalet architecture.
The equipment delivery and installation logistics are the primary operational challenge. All equipment is assembled, tested and programmed at our UK workshop before being driven to the Alps. On-site installation is efficient and minimally disruptive — a critical consideration in a chalet that may have a rental booking in the adjacent window. We work with trusted local electricians and joiners across the Portes du Soleil, Haute-Savoie and the Three Valleys for the structural and electrical elements of each cinema installation.
The Technology — What We Specify for Alpine Cinema Rooms
4K laser projection. Sony and JVC 4K laser projectors for all alpine cinema installations. The alpine environment — extreme cold during unoccupied periods, rapid temperature changes when the chalet is opened up — makes laser the only practical specification. Lamp-based projectors are damaged by the temperature cycling that is a fact of alpine chalet life. Laser sources are robust to temperature variation and maintain their rated output for 20,000 hours without intervention. Read our projector guide →
Screen Excellence acoustically transparent screens. Fixed-frame acoustically transparent screens on all dedicated alpine cinema rooms — the front speaker array sits behind the screen, with audio and video spatially aligned. Read our screen guide →
Artcoustic speaker systems. Artcoustic modular speaker systems available in any finish to match the chalet’s fabric wall treatment. Dolby Atmos configurations from 5.1.2 to the full 11.4.2 of our Châtel installation.
Trinnov and Anthem processing. Trinnov Altitude for our most ambitious alpine cinema rooms; Anthem MRX for mid-range. Room correction calibration as standard on every installation.
Kaleidescape. Kaleidescape movie servers on all serious alpine cinema installations — lossless Dolby Atmos and full uncompressed 4K HDR. The Kaleidescape server integrates with Crestron so the film library is accessible from the same iPad as every other chalet system.
Crestron and Lutron integration. Every alpine cinema is integrated with Crestron and Lutron. One button press on the iPad sets the cinema scene across the whole chalet — the cinema activates, the lighting adjusts and other zones go quiet.
Home Cinema Maintenance for Alpine Chalets
We provide pre-season maintenance visits for all alpine cinema rooms we have installed — scheduled before the winter or summer season begins, ensuring the projector, processor, source equipment and control system are all working correctly before the first guests or owners arrive. Remote monitoring covers projector health, Trinnov processor status, Kaleidescape server and Crestron system performance year-round. Software updates and programming adjustments are completed remotely without a site visit in most cases.
Alps Case Studies — Home Cinema Installations

Châtel, Portes du Soleil
The first truly high-specification cinema room in the Portes du Soleil area — and one of the most celebrated alpine cinema installations in the Custom Controls portfolio. Sony VW7000 4K laser projection on a 3.8m Screen Excellence acoustically transparent screen; Artcoustic 11.4.2 Dolby Atmos speaker system with three height channel tiers; Trinnov Altitude 16 processing; and Kaleidescape source with the full film library pre-loaded before each season. The room seats eight comfortably on two rows of reclining seats on a tiered platform. The Crestron system manages the cinema room as part of the wider chalet — one button press on the iPad transitions the whole property into cinema mode. Used by the family every evening during ski season and by rental guests who cite it as the highlight of their stay.
Megève, Haute-Savoie
A large prestige chalet in Megève with a purpose-designed cinema room that represents our most ambitious alpine installation. A 4m curved Screen Excellence screen — the curvature addressing the bass mode characteristics of the room’s dimensions — Sony 4K laser projection and Artcoustic 11.4.2 Dolby Atmos. The Trinnov Altitude 16 was calibrated on-site over two days, with measurements taken at all ten seating positions to achieve consistent performance across the full audience area. Lutron Homeworks QSX manages the cinema lighting with five individually controlled circuits. The room was designed acoustically before construction began, with the structural specification developed by Custom Controls and built by the chalet’s main contractor.
