Lutron Installer Alps — Lighting Control for Alpine Chalets
Certified Lutron dealer with over 25 years of Homeworks QSX expertise and an Alps office in Montriond, Haute-Savoie. Pre-built racks, Sivoia shading and Crestron integration for luxury chalets across France and Switzerland.
Custom Controls are a certified Lutron dealer and installer with an Alps office in Montriond, Haute-Savoie. We have been designing and installing Lutron lighting control systems for luxury alpine chalets since the early 2000s — across Morzine, Les Gets, Châtel, Megève, Méribel, Courchevel, Val d’Isère, Verbier and beyond. Lutron is the lighting system we specify on virtually every alpine chalet installation — either as a standalone system or, more commonly, integrated with Crestron home automation as part of a complete chalet smart home.
25 Years of Lutron Experience — Why It Matters for Alpine Chalet Projects

Custom Controls have been certified Lutron dealers since 1998. Delivering Lutron to a remote alpine location adds a layer of complexity that amplifies every aspect of the experience gap between a well-prepared installer and one that is not. Our depth of knowledge across 25 years of Homeworks QSX design, combined with our pre-build methodology, is what makes alpine Lutron installations reliable rather than stressful.
Pre-built, pre-programmed racks shipped to site. Every Lutron Homeworks QSX rack we build for an alpine project is fully wired, tested and programmed at our UK workshop before being driven or shipped to the Alps. The rack arrives at the chalet in operating condition — all dimmer modules wired and labelled, all circuits mapped to the programme, all scenes loaded and verified. On-site work involves connecting lighting circuits and refining scenes in the finished chalet. It does not involve building a system from components in a chalet ski room between seasons. For an alpine project where on-site time is expensive and the installation window between rental seasons is narrow, this methodology is not optional — it is the only practical approach.
Multi-building chalet estate design. Larger alpine chalets with a separate annexe, ski room, garage, guest studio or pool building require a Lutron system designed across multiple structures. We design the rack topology for each building independently — with a central QSX processor managing the whole estate and Crestron unifying the control interface across every structure.
Motorised blackout blinds and curtains as standard. Lutron Sivoia motorised shading is integral to every alpine chalet installation we deliver. Bedroom blackout blinds are programmed into the goodnight scene alongside the lights — a single button closes every blackout blind and dims every light in the chalet in sequence. For rental chalets, automatic blind closure as part of the departure scene ensures the chalet is properly prepared for the next guests.
Remote programming and scene management. Lutron Homeworks QSX and RadioRA 3 are both remotely accessible — programming updates, new scene additions, keypad remapping and fault diagnosis can all be performed from our UK or Alps offices without a site visit.
Pre-season maintenance visits. We offer pre-season Lutron maintenance visits — scheduled before each winter or summer season — to verify every keypad, processor, Sivoia motor and Crestron integration point is working correctly before the first guests or owners arrive.
Lutron Lighting for Alpine Chalets — The Right Specification
Alpine chalet lighting design has specific requirements that differ from a domestic UK installation. The arrival experience — stepping into a warm, welcoming chalet after a day on the mountain — is one the client returns to again and again, and the lighting is central to that experience. Departure scenes, cinema scenes, dining scenes and night scenes all need to feel considered — not generic.
Lutron Homeworks QSX is our specification for new build chalets and major renovations where wired infrastructure is available during construction. It is the system we use on our most ambitious alpine projects — the Châtel chalet cinema, the Megève prestige chalet and the larger Morzine properties.
Lutron RadioRA 3 is our specification for retrofit chalet installations — and this is by far the most common alpine scenario. RadioRA 3’s wireless operation resolves the rewiring problem entirely — a full professional Lutron lighting control system installed without opening a single wall or ceiling. Clear Connect RF operates reliably through the thick stone and timber construction typical of alpine chalets, where consumer wireless devices frequently struggle.
Lutron Sivoia Motorised Shading Alps

Motorised blackout blinds are a practical requirement in many alpine chalets — particularly bedrooms at altitude where early morning light in summer arrives before 5am. A goodnight scene can close all bedroom blackout blinds and dim all lights in sequence from a single keypad button at the bedside. For rental chalets, automatic blind closure as part of the departure scene ensures the chalet is properly prepared for the next guests without relying on a cleaning team.
Lutron Maintenance & Support Alps
We provide remote support for Lutron systems across all our alpine installations. Programming updates, scene changes, new zone additions and fault diagnosis can all be performed from our UK or Alps offices without a site visit. For physical work, our Montriond office covers the Portes du Soleil region directly. We offer pre-season Lutron maintenance visits — ensuring all keypads, processors and blinds are fully operational before the first guests arrive.
Alps Case Studies — Lutron Installations

Châtel, Portes du Soleil
A Lutron Homeworks QSX installation across a large Châtel chalet, with dedicated cinema lighting design as the centrepiece. The cinema room uses five individually controlled Lutron circuits programmed into six scenes from pre-show to cleaning. All integrated with Crestron so the cinema scene activates automatically when a film is selected on Kaleidescape. The main chalet lighting covers twelve zones across four floors.
Megève, Haute-Savoie
A Lutron Homeworks QSX installation in a large prestige Megève chalet. Eighteen lighting zones across five floors plus the cinema room and ski room; Sivoia motorised blackout blinds in all seven bedrooms; Palladiom keypads throughout matched to the chalet’s interior design. The Lutron system integrates with Crestron to deliver arrival, cinema, dining, ski-day morning and departure scenes from a single iPad or any room keypad.
Morzine, Portes du Soleil
A Lutron RadioRA 3 retrofit installation in a substantial existing Morzine chalet — installed during a single working week without the owners needing to vacate. Twelve lighting zones, wireless Sivoia motorised blinds in all bedrooms and the sitting room, and integration with the Crestron system for geofenced arrival scenes.
Frequently Asked Questions — Lutron Alps
How long have Custom Controls been Lutron installers for alpine chalets?
Since the early 2000s — over 20 years of alpine Lutron installations, and certified Lutron dealers since 1998. We have an Alps office in Montriond, Haute-Savoie, and have designed and installed systems across Morzine, Les Gets, Châtel, Megève, Méribel, Courchevel and the Swiss Alps.
Do your Lutron racks come pre-built for alpine projects?
Yes. Every Lutron Homeworks QSX rack we build for an alpine project is fully wired, tested and programmed at our UK workshop before being driven or shipped to the Alps. The rack arrives at the chalet in operating condition. For projects where the installation window between rental seasons is narrow, this pre-build methodology is essential — on-site time is spent connecting circuits and refining scenes, not building the system from components.
Can Lutron be installed in an existing alpine chalet without rewiring?
Yes. Lutron RadioRA 3 is fully wireless — it installs over existing wiring using Lutron’s Clear Connect RF technology, which operates reliably through the thick stone and timber construction typical of alpine chalets.
Can Lutron control motorised blackout blinds for alpine chalets?
Yes. Lutron Sivoia motorised blackout blinds are integral to every alpine chalet installation we deliver — programmed into the goodnight scene alongside the lights. For rental chalets, automatic blind closure as part of the departure scene ensures the chalet is properly prepared for the next guests without a cleaning team operating manual blinds room by room.
Do you offer pre-season Lutron maintenance for alpine chalets?
Yes. We offer pre-season maintenance visits scheduled before each winter or summer season — verifying every keypad, processor, Sivoia motor and Crestron integration point is working correctly before the first guests or owners arrive. Our Montriond office covers the Portes du Soleil region directly.
Can Lutron be updated remotely for a chalet between visits?
Yes. Lutron Homeworks QSX and RadioRA 3 are both remotely accessible. Programming updates, new scene additions, keypad remapping and fault diagnosis can all be performed from our UK or Alps offices without a site visit.
