The Technology — What We Specify for Dubai Cinemas

4K laser projection. Sony and JVC 4K laser projectors for all Dubai cinema rooms. Laser sources maintain rated brightness for 20,000 hours without intervention, eliminating the lamp degradation and replacement cycle that makes lamp-based projectors impractical in the Dubai climate. Read our projector guide →

Screen Excellence acoustically transparent screens. Every dedicated Dubai cinema room uses a Screen Excellence fixed-frame screen, allowing the full front speaker array to sit behind the screen with audio and video spatially aligned. Screen Excellence material withstands the UAE climate without warping or surface degradation. Read our screen guide →

Artcoustic speaker systems. Artcoustic is our primary Dubai cinema speaker specification — modular, scalable, available in any colour to match fabric walls, and capable of Dolby Atmos configurations from 5.1.2 to the 13.2.14 of the IMAX installation.

Trinnov processing. Trinnov Altitude 16 or 32 depending on channel count and room scale. The Trinnov Optimizer’s 3D measurement microphone ensures consistent performance across every seat in rooms with multiple rows.

Kaleidescape. Kaleidescape movie servers on every serious Dubai cinema installation — lossless Dolby Atmos and full uncompressed 4K HDR.

Crestron and Lutron integration. Every Dubai cinema is integrated with Crestron and Lutron — one button press dims the lights to the cinema scene, starts the projector, selects Kaleidescape and adjusts the screen mask. For villas where the cinema is one part of a wider entertainment specification spanning the majlis, terrace and pool, see our whole-villa audio and entertainment guide →

Designed and Pre-Built in the UK

Every Dubai cinema is designed in full before any equipment is ordered. Room dimensions, seating layout and sightlines, screen size, speaker positions and acoustic treatment are designed together, then presented as 3D renders so the family can see the finished room, followed by construction drawings for the fit-out contractor. The equipment racks are then assembled, programmed and tested at our UK workshop and shipped to the UAE in operating condition. Time on site in Dubai is spent on installation, integration and calibration rather than commissioning from scratch, which is the main reason our Dubai projects finish on time and to specification.

Calibrated for Every Seat

Every Dubai cinema is calibrated in the finished room before handover. The Trinnov Optimizer measures the room in three dimensions across the seating area, and levels, delays, crossovers and equalisation are set so that every row hears a coherent, balanced soundfield. Video is calibrated to the reference standard, so colour, contrast and brightness match what the film-maker intended. In a multi-row room such as our IMAX Enhanced installation, this is what gives the back row the same experience as the front.

Home Cinema Service, Renovation & Maintenance Dubai

We provide remote monitoring and support for all Dubai cinema rooms. Our monitoring covers projector health, Trinnov processor status, Kaleidescape server management and Crestron/Lutron system performance. Software updates, programme changes and scene adjustments are completed remotely without a site visit in most cases. For hardware maintenance we schedule visits to Dubai as part of our regular UAE engineer programme. For cinema rooms installed by another company, or rooms that have fallen behind current audio and video formats, we also offer full takeover, renovation and recalibration. Annual cinema maintenance contracts for Dubai clients include priority remote support, a scheduled on-site maintenance visit and calibration review. Dubai Case Studies — Home Cinema Installations

IMAX Enhanced Cinema, Dubai

The benchmark against which all Custom Controls cinema rooms are measured. An 11-metre long, 7-metre wide room with a 4-metre ceiling, a 6.4-metre wide Screen Excellence projection screen and 18 seats in three tiered rows. The audio system is a 13.2.14 Dolby Atmos configuration: 48 Artcoustic Performance A6 speakers and five Performance P6 subwoofers, processed by a Trinnov Altitude 32 with four Amplitude amplifiers. The Sony VPL-VW5000 4K laser projector is calibrated to IMAX Enhanced brightness certification. Kaleidescape provides the lossless source. The Crestron system manages the room as part of the wider estate — one iPad button press initiates the full IMAX deployment sequence.

Family Villa Cinema, Dubai

The contrast to the IMAX installation above, and an equally important reference point. An intimate Dubai family cinema room designed for daily use. BB Italia Tufty Time sofa seating for seven, a 2.5-metre Screen Excellence screen, Sony 4K laser projection and an Artcoustic 7.2.4 Dolby Atmos speaker system. Kaleidescape source and full Crestron integration. The brief was a room the family would actually use every evening — not a showpiece. It has been in daily use since installation, with the family reporting it as the room in the villa they spend the most time in.

Al Barari Cinema, Dubai

A mid-range Dubai villa cinema demonstrating what a thoughtfully designed room delivers without IMAX-scale ambition. Sony 4K laser projection on a 3.2-metre Screen Excellence acoustically transparent screen, Artcoustic 9.2.4 Dolby Atmos speaker system, fibre optic star effect ceiling, Lutron cinema lighting scenes and full Crestron integration. Eight seats in two rows on a tiered platform. A specification that delivers a genuinely reference-level cinema experience in a room that feels designed rather than assembled.

We work alongside villa architects, interior designers and fit-out contractors from the design stage, providing the drawings they need to build the cinema shell correctly.
